Chirine emerged in Francophone environments as a transliteration of Shirin shaped by French orthographic habits. In French spelling, the digraph “Ch” commonly represents the "sh" sound, making the adaptation visually consistent within French-language contexts while retaining the original pronunciation.

The form appears most frequently in Lebanon and other Arab communities influenced by French education and cultural exchange.
