Mustapha

The form Mustapha reflects a long-established transliteration pattern in parts of North, West, and Central Africa, where Arabic naming traditions spread through Islamic education, trade routes, and scholarly networks. The use of “ph” represents an alternative rendering of the consonant sound found in the original Arabic, influenced in some regions by French and other European orthographic systems.

Over centuries, Mustapha became firmly integrated into African Muslim communities, appearing among scholars, rulers, athletes, and public figures. Although spelled differently from Mustafa, the name maintains the same pronunciation in many dialects and preserves its historical and religious associations.
