Rahman

Rahman is derived from the Arabic word رحمن (raḥmān), a form built from the consonantal root رحم, the same root that underlies words connected with mercy, compassion, and رحمَة (raḥma), meaning “mercy.” In Islamic tradition, ar-Raḥmān is one of the best-known names of God and appears prominently in the Qur'an, including as the title of Surah ar-Rahman. Because of this sacred association, the element Rahman became deeply established in Muslim naming traditions.
